Always Have Battery When You Need It
Grid Getter watches your Powerwall charge level every minute and tops it up automatically — so you're never caught with an empty battery when peak rates hit or a storm rolls in.
The Problem With "Set It and Forget It" Powerwalls
Left on their own, Powerwalls can leave you exposed at the worst moments.
Empty at Peak Time
Your Powerwall discharges overnight, then peak rates kick in at 3 PM with nothing left in reserve. You end up buying expensive grid power exactly when you were trying to avoid it.
Solar Doesn't Always Align
Cloudy days, shading, and seasonal variation mean solar production varies. Without automatic top-ups, a few overcast days can leave your battery lower than expected heading into a peak window.
Storms Arrive Without Warning
A weather event that knocks out power for hours is no time to discover your battery was at 15%. Keeping a reliable floor means you're always ready for the unexpected.
How Battery Protection Works
Two automations that keep your Powerwall ready — without any daily management from you.
Battery Threshold
Set a floor (e.g. 20%) and a target (e.g. 80%). When your Powerwall drops to the floor, Grid Getter switches to Autonomous mode and charges to your target. Once reached, it returns to Self Consumption — or holds at target if you flip the hold toggle.
Peak Time Reserve
At peak start, Grid Getter raises your battery reserve to a percentage you specify — so your Powerwall doesn't discharge below that level during high-rate hours. At peak end, it drops the reserve back to zero for full overnight discharge recovery.
Smart Automation Setup
Grid Getter reads your Tesla tariff data and proposes ready-to-use automations matched to your rate schedule — including seasonal peak variations for utilities like SRP E-26 and APS Saver Choice. Review, name, and confirm in seconds.
DemandGuard-Aware
Battery Threshold automatically defers during active DemandGuard intervals so the two don't fight each other. DemandGuard owns the peak window; Battery Threshold fills back up in the off-peak hours that follow.
Minute-by-Minute Monitoring
Grid Getter checks your battery level via Tesla telemetry every minute. When the threshold is crossed it acts immediately — not on a slow polling schedule that might miss the window.
Built-In Recovery
If Tesla connectivity drops during an active window, Grid Getter detects it on reconnect and restores your Powerwall to the correct mode automatically. No manual cleanup needed.
What You Configure
Simple settings. Powerful protection.
Set Your Floor & Target
Choose the battery percentage that triggers charging (floor) and the level to charge up to (target). Floor must be lower than target — e.g. 20% floor, 80% target.
Choose Active Hours
Define the time window when the automation can run — typically off-peak hours (e.g. 7 AM–3 PM) to avoid charging at expensive rates. The automation resets outside this window.
Enable Hold (Optional)
Flip the hold toggle to keep your Powerwall in Autonomous mode at the target level indefinitely — ideal if you want a guaranteed reserve heading into peak hours every day.
What Battery Protection Makes Possible
Real scenarios where automatic battery management pays off.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is Battery Threshold automation?
Battery Threshold watches your Powerwall charge level every minute. When it drops below your floor, Grid Getter automatically charges it back up to your target — then returns to self-consumption mode (or holds at target if you enable the hold toggle).
How does Peak Time battery reserve work?
Peak Time automation raises your Powerwall's reserve at the start of your utility's peak window so the battery won't discharge below that level during high-rate hours. At peak end it can drop the reserve back to zero for full overnight recovery.
Can I use Battery Protection and DemandGuard together?
Yes. Battery Threshold automatically defers during active DemandGuard intervals. DemandGuard takes priority during peak demand windows; Battery Threshold fills back in during off-peak hours.
What plan do I need?
Battery Threshold and Peak Time automations require Premium ($4.99/month) or DemandGuard ($9.99/month). The free plan includes live monitoring and one custom automation.
What happens if Tesla connectivity drops?
Grid Getter has built-in recovery logic. When connectivity is restored it checks whether your Powerwall is in the correct mode and restores Autonomous mode automatically — no manual intervention needed.
How often does Grid Getter check my battery level?
Battery Threshold polls your Powerwall via Tesla telemetry every minute, so it catches drops quickly and triggers charging before your reserve hits critically low levels.
